Photo-based measurement is the question every tailor asks first, so here is the
straight answer. Capturing from a photo gets you close enough to sort a customer
into the right size band, to quote, and to start an order. It is not close enough
to cut expensive silk without checking the critical points by hand.
The measurements that carry the fit — bust, shoulder, armhole, neck depth
— still deserve a tape. What the app removes is the copying, the
re-measuring of returning customers, and the smudged figure nobody can read.
What the app cannot judge
- Posture. A sloping shoulder or a forward stance still needs a human eye, though the adjustment can be saved once made.
- Where the tape belongs. A chest measured two inches high is wrong on paper and wrong on screen.
- Ease. How much room a garment needs is a decision, not a measurement.
- The trial fitting on bridal and heavily fitted work.
Being clear about this matters, because a shop that expects the app to replace
measuring skill will be disappointed, and a shop that expects it to replace the
measurement book will be delighted.
