Is this the same as a pattern cutting machine?

Yes. A pattern cutting machine and a CAD plotter machine are the same tool by two names - it drafts and cuts full-scale garment patterns straight from your CAD file. Tailors searching for a pattern cutting machine for blouse, churidar or shirt work are looking for exactly this: a blade-equipped CAD plotter machine that replaces hand-drawn paper patterns. Our pattern cutting machine works to 0.1 mm accuracy and reads DXF, PLT and HPGL files.

What is the difference between a plotter and a printer?

A plotter uses a mechanical pen or blade to physically draw or cut patterns, while a printer uses ink sprayed onto paper. Plotters offer superior accuracy and no ink costs.

Can it cut patterns automatically?

Yes, blade-equipped models cut patterns automatically from digital CAD files. No manual cutting required.

What CAD software is compatible?

Fully compatible with Fashion Dot CAD and also accepts standard DXF/PLT files from Gerber AccuMark, Lectra, Optitex and others.

What is the running cost?

Extremely low — only pen refills (approx. ₹50–200 each) or blade replacements. No ink cartridges or toner needed.

How wide a pattern can the plotter handle?

The paper roll decides it. Standard continuous roll paper is 15 inches wide, which covers blouse, churidar and shirt pieces comfortably. Check your largest piece — a full gown panel or a coat front — against the roll width before you choose, because a pattern cutting machine that cannot take your biggest piece in one pass will cost you time on every order.

Does it work with patterns I already draw by hand?

Yes, but they have to be entered once. After that the pattern is stored and re-plotted rather than redrawn, so it is a one-time job rather than a repeated one. Most shops enter their most-used blocks in the first week and add the rest as orders come in.

How much floor space does it need?

A stand-mounted plotter needs roughly the footprint of a cutting table, plus clear space behind it for the paper to feed. It does not need ventilation or special power, which is the main practical difference between a plotter and a laser cutter.

Who can operate it?

Anyone who can measure accurately. The drafting is done by the software, so a cutting assistant with no hand-drafting experience can produce a master-quality pattern. That is why shops use a plotter to bring new staff up to standard quickly rather than waiting months for them to learn to draft.
